DreamWorks Animation Launches Ground Breaking Web 2.0 Site

Utilizing interactive technology and innovative design to deliver stories

Los Angeles, California – Companies that have websites are getting left behind: the web and its users have gone along and discarded these sites as ugly or wonky or, quite often, just not worth it. In the age of Web 2.0, it is the companies who live and breathe innovation who are leading the way by launching sites that are forward looking, user-centric, and build brand across multiple on and off-line platforms and media.  DreamWorks recently launched such a site.

Further proof… This gorgeous site won a prestigious 2008 Outstanding Website Award from The Web Marketing Association. As well another half dozen important design awards.

“DreamWorks is about innovation in using technology to tell engaging and compelling stories. Their web presence must reflect this. We built a home on the web that was easy to use, fun to explore, and brought their characters to life, says Steve Huot, President of BroadSpire®.  The site needed to have:”

DreamWorks Animation chose BroadSpire, the creative division of 12-year old Web Ecosystem Marketing™ pioneer BroadSpire, Inc. to lead this charge.  As one of the world’s first Integrated Web Agencies, BroadSpire leverages a dispersed team of designers, programmers, and technicians and deploys them across a 24/7 work schedule that spans three continents.  As such, they were able to deliver exceptional results for DreamWorks along a tight timeline.

“Working on a 90-day design/build/launch schedule, BroadSpire collaborated with Division 13 to conceptualize and bring to life a site that fulfilled each of the key goals,” shares Manoj Paul, Creative Director of the agency.   Using high-end Flash Action scripting, we were able to create a presence that feels very much alive and goes about the experience in an active way such that the user feels like he/she is part of whatever storyline we are sharing, be it about the upcoming release of Bee Movie or sharing what it is like to work inside the DreamWorks Studio.”

In addition to showcasing each of the film titles on a unique homepage that gives the user the feeling of being inside the theatre, BroadSpire placed a great deal of emphasis on generating ample opportunities for users to engage with characters on the site through various games and applications such as Shrek Sudoku and Puppet Dance.  This interaction then offers users the chance to take the characters offline with them through desktop widgets, e-mail inserts, and screensavers.  “A complete web presence must capture attention, allow and encourage the user to explore and play, while at the same time packaging each interaction in a way that builds and extends the brand out beyond the home site.  Exceptional web presences have many appendages that stick out and move outward from the site,” shares Mr. Huot.

DreamWorks and BroadSpire continue to collaborate to enrich the site and enhance the user experience in preparation for future launches. Today's web development never ends. You have to constantly innovate to keep things fresh. And BroadSpire has a few more tricks up its sleeves that we look forward to implementing for this award winning site!”
